Barnson
Yesterday your mom and I went to Manti where the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers were honoring Four People both from Denmark. Your Grandfather, Christen Peter Barnson and his wife who was an Anderson came fron Demark in about 1843.
There was also another Anderson that came on the ship with them. Christen and Grandma Anderson were married by the ships captain when they left England. She was not expected to live as she was sick but did survive and lived for many years. Brigham Yound sent then to Spring City and then on to Manti where they lived the rest of their lives. He helped build the Manti Temple, City Hall and the Manti Tabernacle. He was a stone cutter. We had a great day with Ray and Kathey Barnson. I will post your grandmothers account of all of this when I get it in a few days. It is really interesting.

I just thought some people would like to know what I read from a Nibley book a long time ago and has come up recently in my classes...He claimed that Isabel was another way to transliterate the name of a Phoenician (Canaanite) Fertility goddess or cult. I don't have any other sources, though he is likely, in my opinion, tracing the word belle back from French to Phoenician or Syriac "Bel" (or Baal), which denoted Lord or Master, and was not the name of any specific god, much like LORD in the KJV. Belle would tie back to a femine title, and refer to possibly Astarte or more probably Anath--but I don't have a working knowledge of 36 languages so I cannot give the details.
The point is--remember when Alma talks to Corianton and he rebukes him for following after the harlot Isabel? Well, she led away the hearts of many, and then Alma starts talking about denying the Holy Ghost. Nibley points out the possibility that this was a Canaanite cult that was revived by some of the less righteous people among the Nephites, and that Coriantumr was doing more than committing sexual sins, but also possibly mixing or fusing or abandoning the religion he was supposed to be preaching.
We've been talking about the Phoenicians lately and I just think that that is pretty cool, and while It does not offer salvation, it is yet another probable connection of Near Eastern society and culture about which Joseph Smith had no knowledge and also perhaps gives a greater insight into Book of Mormon society--acting just like the Israelites back home, and also into the troubles Corianton may have gotten into.

Something to think about . . .
From the near death experience of Sarah Menet, published under the title There is no Death. She's not a prophet, but she did learn this interesting thing from her time on the "other side:"

Our Quarterly Update
Hello everyone. Just thought I'd try to post some pictures of our cute son for all to see. And a special one of mom. You're welcome.
Nothin much is new in the Johnson household (that's Kirk and Christy for all those that forget). Kirk was asked to teach an 8th period so he has no prep. period. He's also coaching soccer so that's fun for him. Their record is 2-2. He just likes the power trip. But he has to be careful because they're girls and prone to spontaneous crying. And we are somewhat close to sheetrocking our basement. Yea!
Christy is boring.
Porter can go up and down stairs and is pretty much awsome in everything. He did his first wave two days ago and can give five. And he knows one or two other fun and exciting things. Right now he's crying 'cause its Sunday and bedtime and that's just how it is.
We enjoyed the BYU game yesterday. Thanks to all who came to our humble abode.
Just so people know- we are here for Thanksgiving and will most likely go to moms with Jeff and Kristen and the boys.

Planets Realign...
The universe just feels better today. BYU looked better, Ian was well-behaved, Kati fixed the internet for me, and I had a great dinner this evening. I hope that everyone else is as content and happy this weekend. By the way, the weekly update on AFHS football--559 yds. rushing vs. Timpanogos. 2nd highest in Utah High School history. 62-48 (we still gave up 450 yds passing and some points).

Hi everyone just saying hi. Shane pretty much told you what we have been doing in the wonderful state of Texas. Babysitting!! But we are done with that and are having lots of fun. Not really doing anything but it is nice to have the company. Here is a picture of us making dinner tonight (ok Shane making dinner). I am the camera man and the cheese grater. But Bryar was feeling left out on the floor so she is up joining us om the sink so she won't fall off the counter.
