Biscuits

Because three people have now called me for this recipe, here it is (Christy can add this to the recipe book also):

Buttermilk Biscuits – Alton Brown

Preheat oven to 450

Mix:

2 cups flour

4 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon soda

1 teaspoon salt

Grate:

½ stick butter (4 tablespoons) this should be frozen and grate it like you would cheese. Then mix this in with the dry ingredients. Rub the butter into the dry ingredients until about half disappears and half is still the size of peas. Place this bowl in the freezer while we wait.

Beat together well:

1 cup buttermilk (as much fat as possible – none of this skim stuff)

1/3 cup plain yogurt (full fat or low fat – not skim here either)

1 large egg

Combine the two bowls by pouring the wet mix onto the dry and mix well. The dough will be sticky here but don’t add too much flour when rolling out. (Alton uses wax paper and folds it like a trifold wallet three times.) Bake for 15-17 minutes and you can brush them with butter when there are about 5 minutes left if you want.

Conference

So, not to beat a dead horse, which I've been known to do, but I noticed some peace promoting themes in L Tom Perry's talk on deliverance and Uchtdorf's talk on showing mercy in order to obtain mercy. That's all :-)

NCAA UPDATE-fifth round

Method I:
41 points: Shane
40 points: Jeff & Mom & Kati
39 points: Val
37 points: Rem, Christy
36 points: Joe, Joe Buck
35 points: Tam
34 points: Kristen
33 points: Weston
32 points: Kirk
23 points: Porter & Brock

Method II:
69 points: Shane
68 points: Val
66 points: Kati
65 points: Jeff & Jolyn
63 points: Christy
62 points: Joe Buck
60 points: Tam
59 points: Rem
56 points: Joe
54 points: Kristen & Kirk
45 points: Weston
28 points: Porter & Brock

Those not moving anymore: Val, Jeff, Porter, Brock, Rem, Tam, Weston, Kati
Those moving up if Kentucky wins: Mom, Shane, Kristen, Kirk, Christy, Joe
Those moving up if Kansas wins: Joe Buck
So, if Kentucky wins, Shane wins
if Kansas wins, Shane wins and Joe Buck moves to a second place tie with Val who is now in second place in the method two way.
Pretty much, Shane is our winner!!!

Good luck to all! I'm of course hoping for Kentucky!

Remember the Johnsons?

Just thought I'd give a little update for us. We actually had an eventful weekend for once. I went in on Friday for my annual cerclage. Everything went well with the procedure other than I think the spinal block has been inflamed the last few days. Making watching conference very uncomfortable. But enough about me...while we were waiting in the hospital, Kirk got a phone call from his principla, Shane, offering him the assistant principle job at AF Jr. So, he got a job which we are very thankful for and he gets to stay at the same school; our perfect senerio. So, we have had a good weekend and some big prayers have been answered. Thanks to all for your support through this process. Now, there is a very stinky smell that I have to go sniff out and clean up as my children have clean diapers, I can only imagine some furniture will need to be cleaned. Yea for unpottytrained children! Love to all.

Peter's Denial

john Hall and Andrew Skinner have written articles and discussed the idea that Peter's denial was commanded him of Christ, and not of any weakness on his part (as hinted by Spencer W Kimball's talk about Peter years ago). I like this a whole lot, but just found an article in the church news from 95 by Millet that points out that Joseph Smith and Joseph Fielding Smith taught that P, J, and J received their calling and election sealing on the mount of transfiguration, long before the crucifixion. That makes it pretty sure that there is no way at Peter denied Christ out of fear or weakness, but that Christ had commanded him to, to prevent him from losing his life as well.
