Who Is the Head Coach?
Who is in charge of the BYU football program? And why can no one else possibly have the respect or toughness of Riley? The quotes follow:
In case you weren't up to watching video of Mendenhall's
entire interview Monday night, here are a few comments as they related to the
quarterback situation:
On whether Nelson is taking medication to get him through
games:
"Yeah, he is tougher than any of us. So medical personnel
work on him every day, all week, to get him to where he can play. And it is hard
for him to make it through. But I believe in him and I would like him to be our
quarterback. So if he is close to being able to go, we will play him. If he
can't go, then he won't play. That's been similar the past couple of weeks."
On whether Riley fights through stuff too much, is his
own worst enemy:
"Oh, I think it just puts more responsibility on myself
and coach Doman, knowing that he will go until he can't hardly stand up. And so
we just have to know that and then help him make that decision."
On whether Taysom Hill gets extra reps in practice:
"Yeah, sure. Both quarterbacks, both Taysom and James
[Lark], will, as Riley is limited or can't go. Then obviously those reps go to
them."
On Taysom Hill and what he brings to the team:
"Really, the reason that Taysom is kind of getting the
majority of the snaps is it allows us to train.... Because he and Riley are
similar in style. So it allows us to keep the game plan alive for Riley, and
then if he can't, it is not that big of a jump to get to Taysom. And so, really,
by style, that's how it is working."
On whether a healthy QB could have given them a better
chance to win the last two games:
"I don't [think so], or I would have played someone
else."
On whether players have confidence in Taysom Hill:
"Hard for that to happen so soon, because Riley is a
proven leader and has played so many plays, and so many snaps and has won so
many games. Probably wouldn't be realistic for [Hill] to earn that."
On whether he will have a quick trigger finger with Riley
on Friday, because of what happened vs. Boise:
"I think I will have a lot better assessment of what the
signs are. And he has a more open line of communication with me now. He kinda
knows what the signs are. It is kind of a learning process."

Alan Keyes - Four Min Video
I know that most of you all have jumped on board the Mitt Romney bandwagon, but if you'd like to know why I could never vote for him I posted a video on my blog.
Eeewwww Gross!!
You'll all be happy to know that the minor surgery that I had yesterday to remove the cyst on my chest was very successful. They took out a cyst that was about half/two-thirds the size of a golf ball. It was disgusting, but now my chest looks normal again after ten years with my small companion. There's a scar about an inch long with 4 internal and 11 external stitches - yippee!!

Great Article
Okay, I liked this article on BYU football - and this will be my last football post before the next game. Although I do not conclude that all/any coaches should be replaced, it brings up some points that are good. I like the questions asked more than the answers given.

Movie Quote
in perusing the photos below, one quote stood out in my mind "...its the stay puffed marshmallow man"
BYU-Utah Quick Thoughts
Some quick thoughts about the game:
Broncos record against Whittingham is taking a beating with 3 straight losses.
Hard to win when you have more turnovers.
I am naming my next son Van Noy.
Defense played well, 2 big plays given up, but you can't ask for much more than that (two offensive touchdowns off a long punt return and an interception). However, it must also be noted that their starting quarterback and running back were not playing.
Special teams lost the game (like 2 years ago), with the punt returns and missed/blocked field goals... But helped out with the punt block in the 4th.
Offensive line looks offensive.
Nelson did not win or did not lose the game and the fumble was not his fault, but we got little out of the offense. It is a sad commentary about my expectations that when they showed BYU's passing yards total in the 3rd quarter and we had 74 total yards, that I thought at the time - "That's about what I expect and I can live with that because we have not turned it over." Nelson had a horrible 3rd quarter, but to his credit, did throw a beautiful pass in the 4th to Hoffman. I even liked the play call with 8 seconds left (out and up attempt), but the ball floated terribly on that throw (possibly was deflected...).
Bronco has stated that the large number of penalties in the first two games did not hurt us and that he was not concerned. I wonder if that has changed as he watched us self-destruct with false starts that killed our drives and personal fouls that kept their drives alive.
Finally, I have decided that I am still a Telestial person, because I was so rooting for BYU to win at the end (obviously because I like BYU) but a large reason was also against Utah fans. Can you imagine the silence in the stadium and overall thought process if BYU had won? It would have been the first time I can remember that a game's outcome would have been blamed entirely on the fans (and rightfully so - that is a penalty). In the coaches postgame conference: "Well, we would have won, except that our fans gave them the victory." Yes, I wanted Utah fans to eat that slice of humble pie, instead, I am sitting here eating it and trying to repent for those thoughts.
Until Thursday.

Trivia Time
Hello to All
I would like to propose a trivia question. How many light sockets are there at 505 North 500 East? This includes outside, inside, and the shed. I do not yet know the answer, but I will give a new light bulb to the one who's guess is closest.
Happy guessing
Kirk

New Fantasy Scoring
So many of you may notice that after the first week of play i've changed the way the scoring is done to be a little more fair all the way around. Every position has a chance to make a big impact, but doesn't get 20 points from 1 touchdown anymore. So everything is just more evenly distributed, while still giving fair TD bonuses. This does, however, change the scoring for the past week as well. So in some cases where a team had won, it made you lose. I know that sucks, but all in all it will make it more fair. If Kirk or Jeff have a problem with the scoring we can change it back. Truth is, that since it changes previous weeks back, we can always revert. That is all.
