Merry Christmas everyone!!!  We just thought we would post some of our pictures of Christmas fun.  The first is baking cookies for Santa.  Next are Asher and Aiven putting out their socks for Santa to fill up.  And then a picture of our Nativity program.  Bridger Stoney staring as Joseph.  Bryar Stoney staring as Mary.  And our two little sheep next to them baaaaing the entire time.  They played their part well.

Here we are Christmas weekend on family vacation....no just two minutes from our house.  This is no vacation this is life for the Stoneys right now.  Wish you could all join us.

And yes Asher has a tendency to have fun faces in all of his pictures.  Also there is a belly poking out in one of the pictures just for you all to see.  Three more weeks and counting!!!

My Tribute to Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a wood, and we took the one that led to Walla Walla, Washington.  Yes, you got that right, we are going to move and take a job as a civilian appraiser for the Army Corps of Engineers.  We basically wanted to be where the local laws are a little less restrictive, if you know what I mean.  Our dreams will be realized January 13th.

Utah drivers...

see where they rank in statistics of worst drivers in america; Drivers were ranked using five criteria: fatality rates per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, failure to obey traffic signals and seatbelt laws, drunk driving, tickets issued for speeding and careless driving.  everybody from out of state does complain that we have the worst drivers...

Fantasy

Congrats to everyone who played this year.  Just letting you know that I was the regular season champion thanks to Remington having the game of the year against Tamara's dominating team.  Especially since I had lost to all three of the people who finished a game behind and would have lost all tiebreakers.  So, when I lose in the first round of the playoffs, you can call me the 2012 Denver Broncos.

Yes--I'm going there

I read Rush Limbaugh's comments about the Pope's Exhortation, so of course, due to my profession, I had to read the Pope's words directly. Limbaugh said he was Marxist, etc... I will say that the exhortation was awesome--this pope is a really well-intentioned man with a lot to teach us all. It was really cool to read. It was a bit anti-capitalist (in the sense of attacking the economic direction the world is going and its constant rejection of our responsibility to care for the poor and mend income gaps), but I found it quite anti-Marxist as well (in that it begs politicians to get back to God in their plans, and other points). If you have a spare hour or two, it is an awesome read with some killer quotes. If I didn't tell you it was the Pope, you'd swear it was coming from Uchtdorf. There--I just exposed my outrageousness to the world. I read things by the Popes. (By the way--Benedict XVI's book on his personal testimony of Christ was flippin' amazing.)

Fantasy

Several of you vetoed my trade with Kristen over Thanksgiving, but this last week, she would have scored 69 points with her three starters (Decker, Mathews, Kaepernick), while my two (Brees and Tamme) scored a whopping 7.  Thanks for vetoing it, because on second thought, it was a little too one-sided.  By the way, it finally snowed up here, ending the warmest November on record.  Bring on December!

There Are Save Two Churches Only - By D. Christian Markham

"If we are to believe the Book of Mormon — if we wish to honor Moroni’s warning — we believing Gentiles of these final days need to understand that we have been commanded to look, recognize, and fully wake up to the agenda and identity of the members of secret combinations and their hidden works. It is not enough to dismiss these matters along the lines of, “Sure, there’s corruption happening somewhere, by somebody, and that’s a bummer.”

It is folly for Church members to assume that the LDS General Authorities are required to lay all this out for us — to expose and declare everything plainly to us, say, during General Conference. We have the Book of Mormon, we have their prophetic warnings already — to expect anything more from them is equivalent to seeking to place our personal responsibility upon their shoulders. Should LDS members, even a vast majority of them, be deceived by wolves in sheep clothing — whether in government or even within the Church (as J. Reuben Clark strongly implies both) — they cannot expect to be clued into the deception by the leaders of the Church."

Then i saw you could be fined for your children's lunch

Monday, November 18, 2013

So I just got the cops called on me for having unsupervised children playing in the front yard.  Seriously!!!  Don't people have other things to do than call the cops on other people.  If they were that worried about it why didn't they just come over and watch my kids or knock on my door and tell me that I am being a bad parent for letting my kids play outside without my eyes on them every moment.  Obviously since I can't watch what I have...why am I having another one?  I'm just glad that this is a temp home and I don't really have this neighbor forever.  Or maybe I should just perfect my parenting abilities.

Remembering Todd Christensen

It is pretty cool to see things like this on a national news source.  This is why BYU continues to play football (or at least attempt to).  The article is okay, but you have to watch the 3 minute analysis, because I thought it was great.

Why do children not understand the concept of Daylight Savings time.  Do they not know that there is a rule that you get to sleep in an extra hour!!!  My kids have happened to wake up at 5:00 in the morning for the last two days.  Oh how long will it be until they switch their bodies to the new time?  And when will it be when they start to sleep in all the time!!!

Great Talk

Click here if you have not watched the BYU forum from October 22nd.  It is a newspaper columnist discussing the current situation in America, and it is very good - even though it is 45 minutes long.

The Kirk KVN connection

excerpt from "the system"

For the first two years of Kyle’s life he wore corrective leg braces. At night he wore a bar fastened to his shoes in order to keep his legs apart. In the morning the toddler would climb out of his crib, crawl down the hall GI Joe–style and enter his parents’ bedroom, the bar still fastened to his shoes. The impediment forced him to use only his elbows to pull himself from one end of the house to the other. That’s when Layne and Kelly realized that their adopted son had an unusually determined spirit.

apparently all great people have clubbed feet...

Okay, so like most of you know we have moved out of Kirk and Christy's house and are now in Florida.  Thank you so much Christy and Kirk for letting us stay there for so long.  We are really appreciative of how kind you were to disrupt your lives with my crazy kids.  As for Florida...we got here and it was actually pretty hot.  On Sunday we were walking around and I wanted to change out of my pants into something cooler.  Oh the change from Utah.  It was just starting to get cold.  I have to say I miss the cool weather.

As of right now we will be in a hotel for a little while until we figure out more of our future.  As Joe would say..."if we only had a crystal ball we would know where we will end up".  Joe is working hard with the two students he has right now so we will just wait and see if we stay in Florida or move to somewhere else.  Love you all and we had a great visit in Utah.  Thank you all for letting us hang out for so long.

Kim Wins in 1 Category!

Congratulations on Kim for winning "most realistic fantasy team".  For if this weren't fantasy football, but real football managing, then pending she were Jerry Jones rolling in the dough, she really might actually be realistically named "Homeless Girl"!  Luckily it's only week 1, and Kim as plenty of time to prove her fantasy skills!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DOUG & KIM

Just want you both to know how pleased I am to have you as our children.  You are good examples of what we are all trying to be.  We all love you very much.  Our greatest joy comes by seeing our children take responsibility for their lives and choices and to refine those choices as they move through their own particular challenges in life.  Have a very happy day.  We all love you both!

Fantasy Shaft!!

So, I am already a little disappointed with Fantasy Football this year. I had no idea we were now playing 2 QBs per week instead of 1. Every year I have had 2 good QBs and needed other positions, so I just let it autodraft. My QBs are awful and I assume a trade is out since you need 2 instead of 1.
Tams, sorry to you too

BREAKING NEWS!

only after typing that title did i realize that's the last thing i posted as well... anyway, carl's jr. biscuits and gravy, are nigh incredible in every way. For example:
for christy there is the pasty biscuit, which is better than kfc's mcdonald's or most we have made at home.
for kirk there is the price, $1.29 for a biscuit and sausage gravy, (the biscuits are about the size of dad's large biscuits and 2 are pretty satisfying) even 3 biscuits would be roughly the price of a double-double, luckily kirk cannot purchase a double-double at 6 am, so the biscuits have their niche for kirk.
for jeff there is black pepper and sausage, so it might be too spicy for him, but still incredible.
i could go on, but i won't... but i could.
anyway the point is try them and you will like them and be a better person for it in the end.
oh yeah and there is the bonus that you do not have to make it early in the morning.

Colombia Developments

So, I'm here in Bogota, and after two weeks the organization is offering me a full time, paid position of managing the two Bogota apartments and all of the volunteers . . . what to do? what to do? . . .

Actually I couldn't live here permanently, so there's no way that I could say yes, but I haven't said no yet. I'm meeting with the program manager this afternoon, and she's going to tell me the exact salary and offer. Even though I have no intentions of staying here longer than my six weeks - it's nice to have them think highly enough of me to make such an offer.

Also, any emails are appreciated - and Mom & Dad: are you getting the emails I have sent? I can't tell from the emails that you have sent me since they don't mention anything that I've told you.

Working with the homeless has been awesome!! I aw working in the kitchens at the Mother Theresa of Calcutta homeless shelter (started by the same nuns as Mother Theresa) preparing food all morning and then serve them - then we clean up. I also went to an orphanage one day, but I didn't feel as productive there, even though I had fun playing with the little kids. There are about 15 other volunteers here at any given time.

The food has been pretty tasty. We have a lady named Rosa that cooks for us Mon-Fri, but we're on our own on the weekends. Anything else . . . just email me and ask. I'll put some pics on Facebook soon.

Hugs to all . . .

Shane

In Savannah today . . .

Hey everyone, just a quick check-in: My drive to Atlanta took me through Denver where I ate at Snooze, my favorite breakfast place. Then I went over Kansas to Salina, then down through Oklahoma City, Dallas, and over to New Orleans. While I was there I ate some amazing food including beignets at Cafe Du Monde and eggs benedict with fried oysters on top that was awesome! After New Orleans I arrived in Atlanta and have been staying with my friend Anne. Many of you saw the pic of my birthday cake on facebook. In Atlanta I've been driving around and exploring the city - it's very green and humid and beautiful. We've been to Coke World and the Ebenezer Church where MLK used to preach. This weekend we're in Savannah, and today we're going out to Tybee Island a resort/beach island - woo hoo!

That's about it, but as a side note: I did have to have a tooth pulled on Tuesday of  this past week. In church I asked if there was a good LDS dentist in the area and was referred to the stake patriarch who practices close to Anne's place. Anyway, the tooth that has been bothering me for months was cracked completely in half. The dentist said he had no idea how it hadn't been killing me with pain for months. Well it's gone now, and I celebrated growing older by losing a tooth . . . good times.

Anyway, love you all, and headed to Bogota in a week! Super exciting!

Car Accident

(Atwood family: I copied and pasted this from our own blog, that's why it is written so generally, as if you had never heard of this "Kenner" character before)

We had a pretty terrifying experience Saturday. Here's the story:

We were heading southbound on I-15 in Salt Lake coming from the I-215 in our Ford Explorer. We had our entire family, plus our 14 year old nephew who we were dropping off in American Fork.

Our car was in the far right lane going about 60-65 mph, a Wal-Mart semi was directly to the left of us, and a RAV4 SUV was on the left side of the semi. Rem had been watching the other SUV from his peripheral for a bit and knew that their lane was about to end. He then realized that the lane wasn't ending, it was ENDED.

He said something like "Oh my gosh!" which grabbed my attention. I looked over just as the semi clipped the other SUV, threw it in front of us, and then the semi swerved and hit us. We instantly started rolling it seemed. The witnesses said we rolled 3 times. We then slid across the 6 lanes of traffic on the drivers side for a few seconds before we popped up on our tires next to the median, facing North in the southbound side.

Rem and I looked at each other and saw that we were okay, and then I immediately looked back to check on Tyson, Seth, and Kenner. I saw Tyson right away but noticed that Kenner was not in his seat. My immediate thought was that Kenner had been thrown, but then he popped up from the far back and said "I'm okay!"

I couldn't see Seth because he was behind my seat and was in a rear-facing car-seat, but by this point 20 cars had pulled over and people had rushed over to check on us. A lady checked the back seat right away for me and told me that Seth was awake and fine.

Rem couldn't open his door so he crawled out of his window and then went on to check the kids, since I couldn't open my door.

I wondered how it was that Kenner ended up in the backseat for a while, then it finally dawned on me. I turned around and asked if he was wearing a seat belt, and sure enough he hadn't.

Tyson and Seth did not have one scratch, one bruise, anything on them. Rem was the worst with a pretty cut up elbow, and I cut my foot up a tiny bit, Kenner was absolutely fine.

I won't use the word luck, because I absolutely believe that it was a series of miracles that protected our family on Saturday. For one, our kids windows did not shatter. Another is that we landed so perfectly, upright and out of the way of traffic. And the most obvious was the fact that Kenner was not killed. I get emotional every time I think of it. The highway patrolmen told us that in his 30 years, he had never seen someone not wearing a seat belt in an accident like this walk away alive.

Not to get all sappy on you, but in all seriousness this could have ended up a lot differently. I know for a FACT that Heavenly Father saved our family that day. I'm so grateful for that, and especially for the knowledge that had things turned out differently, it still would have been okay. I'll be with my family forever, and this experience just made me realize how fragile life really is and how in an instant it can change here in this life. Our testimony's were given a swift kick in the pants that day, and I'm okay with that.

OH, and if you're wondering what this is, we had just come from the bread store, not 5 minutes before. We had 20 loaves in the back for our family reunion next week. It was strewn across the highway and smashed to smithereens. But that's okay, i'll take the 30 dollar loss any day.

California Trip

This is because Kim asked for a pictorial update on our family.  Our camera battery died, so we used the phone.  Some photos have not been downloaded yet (the black bear we saw in sequoia) and some of these may not be the clearest photos, but here they are:

Hey everyone just saying hello.  We want updates from everyone on what is going on.  This is a picture of us about to go on a bike ride to the pool.  Aiven has a chair on my bike but she is always the first one when she hears bike ride to run and grab her helmet and grab mine as well.  Update here is that we are sooo excited to come back in June to see everyone.  Joe is working hard here and usually busy.  Bryar is in Kindergarten and learning lots of bad habits that have to be corrected when she gets home.  In fact one super cool song she learned at school, "Gangum Style" was a very short fad in this house.  I was wondering what it was and watched it on You Tube so I could figure out what she was learning at school.  After watching it I was more stupid than I was when I started it and now I know that she is going to school to become more stupid.  But really she is reading now and loves art and is pretty good at drawing details in her pictures.  Her teacher won't let her draw before she writes a story now because she takes so much time with all the details in the pictures.  Bridger is doing great and loves to go to preschool and is almost reading (he is reading small words).  He wants to be an athlete when he grows up and turns down sweets all the time because they are not healthy and likes his vegies because that is what athletes eat.  He would like to play football, soccer, golf, tennis, baseball, and tug-o-war.   Asher is the cutest kid that is super hard to discipline for two reasons, he is super cute, and he doesn't listen and does whatever he wants even if you do discipline.  So we are still working on him.  Aiven is super sweet and super sassy.  If she wants something she will fight for it, but she is the only one who will just cuddle up with you and just let you hold her.  She is either glaring at you or smiling.  At church one guy loves to come up to her and say, "do I get a glair or a smile today".  Well that is us in a nutshell.  I just sit around the house and watch sop-operas.  You know how it is for us stay at home moms.
