New thought . . .

I'm sorry about the political dynamic of most of my posts, but it seems to be in my mind a lot these days. Having said that, yesterday I was thinking about the Law given to the House of Israel by Moses. The thought that came to me was that the Law was given directly from God. It was a simple, yet elegant rule to govern both their religious and political lives. However, to "protect" the Law, over the years they built up this complex maze of petty rules and regulations that many people didn't even understand. These rules and regulations eventually became the new law, and the spirit of the original faded - even though they continued to pay lip service to the divinity of the original.

In the United States today the religious and political worlds have split. They aren't under the same law - BUT - we still believe the Constitution was divinely inspired, just like the Law of Moses. So if the Constiution is our modern Law, what has become of it? Do any of you see any parrallels to the process of legal apostasy?

Jesus came to restore the people to both the legal and spiritual truths for which the Law had been given. He thus ignored the rules and regulations in order to follow the "Constitution." If, in the Last Days, the Constitution is hanging by a thread, it may be that breaking the law is the only way to save the Law . . .

Thoughts???

Excellent comment, but no time to discuss now.

I agree to a point with you on this one but what can we do. We as individuals will just be put in jail. If the church as a whole did it then it might say something. Just like when the Savior came and said something. Yes he was one man but he was not just a man. So I say still obey the laws of the land until the prophet tells us differently.

I agree with you. I'm definitely NOT calling for any type of rebellion, now. I'm just pointing out how far we have drifted, and what MAY need to be done in the future.

I a do agree that we may or will do that in the future

good post and follow-up comments. I for one have no problem with an organized, purposeful rebellion, as long as it is divinely inspired and follows the principles of the gospel.
After all, who doesn't love the Moroni-Pahoran exchange?

I agree! But, remember Shane's posting of the Cardston temple experience? The author noted that as all the chaos was continuing in the world, the elders were being directed on high and quietly and peacefully directing their people to 1) return to the fold and 2) move in the directions of their inspired leaders. They were carefully and in a timely manner brought into Zion and the assigned refuge places by the church leaders. Follow the Prophet??? Absolutely.
