Points to Ponder . . .

We know that in the pre-mortal life Satan wanted to take away our agency, and that he wanted all of the glory for himself. This means that those who didn't keep their first estate were willing to have their agency taken from them. So if the same war rages here on earth, then we can assume two things: 1. It is very important to our spiritual progress that we do everthing possible to ensure the principles of freedom, liberty and agency. 2. Satan will be doing all he can to take those things from us. It must also means that there is a strong temptation for us to give up our liberty for a sense of worldly security, but it also suggests that such a sacrifice may carry eternal consequences. We see quite often througout history, and even today, many who feel frightened into just such a trade of liberty for security, and yet the exchange is ironic, for it actually brings enslavement rather than security.

James Madison: "Of all of the enemies of public liberty, war is perhaps the most to be dreaded."

Ben Franklin: Those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither and will lose both. (paraphrase)
